Getting started

Your first week with Penny

Save a useful decision, recall it in a new chat, and keep a small piece of work moving across sessions.

Updated October 12, 2026

Use your first week to complete one small cycle: save something you will need again, retrieve it in a fresh conversation, and use it to continue your work. You can do the steps at your own pace.

Start with one connected AI app. Follow its installation instructions, then open the Penny dashboard so you can check the results yourself. The AI needs to use Penny's tools, with any permissions its host requires, to save or retrieve information.

Days 1–2: save a decision you can check

For practice, imagine planning a drawing workshop. You have chosen a 45-minute session with pencils and paper because participants will bring different supplies. Keep the reason alongside the decision; it will be useful when you consider changing the plan.

This prompt creates a clearly labeled fictional example. Replace it with an actual decision if you want to keep the record.

Save a private Penny note titled "Practice: drawing workshop decision".
This is fictional practice data, not a fact about me.
The workshop will be 45 minutes and use pencils and paper because
participants will bring different supplies. The date is not decided.
After saving, retrieve the note from Penny and show me its saved content.

Open Notes, find the title, and check that the reason and undecided date are present. A message saying “I'll remember” is not the saved result. Saving a note covers the dashboard alternative.

Days 3–4: test recall and capture an action

Open a new conversation in the connected app and ask:

Search Penny for "Practice: drawing workshop decision" and read the note.
What supplies did the example choose, and why? What is still undecided?
Use the saved note rather than guessing.

The answer should name pencils and paper, the differing supplies, and the undecided date. If it cannot find the note, use recall troubleshooting.

Next, create a separate task for the action:

Create a private Penny task called "Practice: draft the workshop outline",
owned by me and scheduled Anytime. This is a practice task.
Read the saved task back, including its owner and schedule.

Check Tasks. The task should be open with the requested owner and schedule. Saving it does not arrange for an agent to execute it.

Days 5–7: make the next conversation easier

For work that will continue, create a Project and connect the relevant records:

Create a private Penny Project named "Practice: drawing workshop".
Its purpose is to prepare the fictional 45-minute workshop.
Link the practice decision note and the existing practice task.
Save progress saying the supplies are chosen and the date remains undecided.
Read the saved Project brief back. Do not create another copy of the task.

Verify your first week

Open Projects and check Purpose, Progress, the linked note, and the To-do. In a fresh chat, ask the AI to read this Project brief before continuing. Projects explains the sections. When the test is finished, remove or cancel the practice records through their dashboard controls so they do not appear as real work.
