Getting connected

Connect once. Every new chat already knows you.

Add Penny to each AI app once, then tell your AI to set it up. It asks a few questions, the kind a new assistant would ask on day one, and saves your answers. Every conversation after that starts from what it knows about you.

Examples

What setup saves

Setup asks who you are, how you like your AI to talk to you, and what you're working on. Some answers become Core notes, the short set every connected AI reads at the start of each conversation. A few from different people:

Goes by Sam. Keep it casual, and skip the small talk.

Install

Start at app.mypenny.ai

Sign in at app.mypenny.ai and pick the app you use most. The dashboard has the current steps for each one, because every AI company installs connectors its own way and changes the process often. For Claude, one plugin install covers claude.ai, the desktop app, and Cowork.

Animation of the Penny dashboard: the Connect an AI client page, then the Claude page with its install steps, and the marketplace name copied.
Animation in Claude: Sam says he just installed Penny, Claude starts Penny setup and asks a few questions, and Sam answers in one message.
Setup

Tell your AI to set it up

Open a new chat and say "Let's set up Penny." Your AI starts Penny's setup and asks a few questions: what to call you, what you do, and how you like it to talk to you. Answer the way you'd answer a person. Mention a pet peeve in passing, and that gets saved too.

Memory notes and Core notes

Your answers become notes

Some answers become notes your AI finds when they're relevant. Others become Core notes, a short set every connected AI reads at the start of each conversation, so the essentials are there before you say anything.

Animation in Claude: a 2 notes saved card and three Profile block added cards appear, and Claude says it saved two notes and three Core notes.
Animation in Claude: the next morning Sam asks for a reply to Rosa, Claude loads his notes, reads her email through Gmail, and drafts a reply with no exclamation points.
The next day

Every new chat starts from it

Open a fresh chat and get straight to the point. Your AI loads your Core notes at the start, so it already knows who you are and how you like things done. Ask for a reply to a client's email, and the draft follows what it knows, down to your rule about exclamation points.

Every app

ChatGPT reads the same notes

Add Penny to ChatGPT, or any other app you use, and it works from the same account. Ask ChatGPT what it knows about you, and it answers from the notes you saved in Claude. Whatever you tell one connected AI, the others can find.

Animation in ChatGPT: Sam asks what it knows about him, a Notes card lists three notes saved in Claude, and ChatGPT sums them up.
Your dashboard

Your first notes, in your dashboard

The notes from setup are in your dashboard as soon as they're saved. Open one to read it, change it, or move it to Trash, where it stays recoverable for 30 days. Your Core notes have a page of their own, so you can see exactly what every chat starts with.

Things to try saying

These work in any AI you've connected to Penny, whatever you use it for.

"Let's set up Penny."

Starts setup: a few questions, then your first notes and Core notes.

"Save what you already know about me."

Your AI writes what it has already learned about you into Penny, so every app you connect can use it.

"What do you know about me so far?"

Lists the notes Penny keeps about you, from any connected app.

"Add to my Core notes: I'm vegetarian."

Puts it in the short set every connected AI reads at the start of a chat.

"Save this as a preference: keep answers short."

Saves how you like your AI to talk to you, for every app.

"Remember that I'm on Mountain Time."

Saves a fact every connected AI should know, like your time zone.

"Save the key points from this chat."

Turns a long conversation into a few notes you can come back to.

"I changed jobs. Update my notes."

Fixes the notes that are out of date instead of adding new ones that disagree.

"Is Penny connected in this chat?"

Your AI checks that it can reach Penny before you start.

Questions about getting connected

Which AI apps can I connect?

Claude, through one plugin that covers claude.ai, the Claude desktop app, and Cowork; ChatGPT; Perplexity; and, for coding, Cursor, Codex and Claude Code. The dashboard at app.mypenny.ai has the current steps for each.

Do I need a paid Claude plan?

Claude's plugins are available on the Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. On Team and Enterprise, an admin may need to allow the marketplace first. On the Free plan, the dashboard has steps for connecting without a plugin.

What does setup ask?

What to call you, what you do, how you like your AI to talk to you, and what you're working on. Answer in plain words, as much or as little as you like. You can change any of it later, in chat or in your dashboard.

Is there anything to change in my AI app's settings?

Your AI gives you a few lines to paste into the app's custom instructions at the end of setup. They tell it to read your Core notes and search Penny before answering, so it does that in every chat.

Do I have to connect every app?

No. Connect the ones you use. Each app you add reads from and saves to the same Penny account, so an app you connect next month starts with everything you've already saved.

Is my data private?

Your notes are encrypted with AES-256-GCM in storage and in transit. We don't train on your data, and we only use AI providers that don't train on it either. Every time Penny's service decrypts your memory, it's on record in your dashboard and sealed into a public, tamper-evident log.
